Banana Blossom Chicken Burgers

Banana blossom (also known as banana heart), which is the large, tear-shaped flower that grows at the end of a banana cluster, has a meaty texture and a slightly sweet flavor that makes it an ideal substitute for chicken. Coated in a crispy batter and served on a toasted bun with your favorite toppings, this burger is sure to be a hit.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (510g) of marinated banana blossom
  • ½ cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of plant-based milk
  • 2 cups of panko breadcrumbs
  • Garlic powder
  • Paprika powder
  • Salt and pepper (only use a pinch since the banana blossom is pre-marinated)
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

Prepare the banana blossom:

First, you need to prepare the banana blossom. Drain the can of banana blossom and rinse it thoroughly under cold water. Then, cut the banana blossom into bite-sized pieces and set aside.

Make the batter:

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and plant milk. Mix well to combine.

Then, in a separate bowl, whisk together the panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika powder, salt, and pepper.

Next, dip each piece of banana blossom into the wet batter and coat it thoroughly. Then, roll the banana blossom in the breadcrumb mixture until it's fully coated. Repeat with all the pieces of banana blossom.

Fry the banana blossom:

Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil to the skillet if needed. Once the oil is hot, place the breaded banana blossom pieces in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.

Deep fry the banana blossom in a generous amount of oil, for 3-4 minutes on each side

Once the banana blossom has turned golden brown and crispy on both sides, remove to a plate

Assemble the burger:

Toast the burger buns to your liking. Add lettuce, tomato, onion, or any other toppings you desire. Then, place the cooked banana blossom pieces on top of the burger buns and serve immediately.
