Description

This Banana Blossom 'Chicken' Burger is a delicious fusion dish that combines the flavors of Southeast Asia and the classic American burger. This innovative burger features a crispy and meaty banana blossom, fresh lettuce, and a creamy sauce, all sandwiched between a soft and fluffy bun.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 can (510g) of marinated banana blossom
  • 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of plant-based milk
  • 2 cups of panko breadcrumbs
  • Garlic powder
  • Paprika powder
  • Salt and pepper (only use a pinch since the banana blossom is pre-marinated)
  • Oil for frying

To assemble:

  • 2 burger buns
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Your favorite burger sauce (I combine 2 tablespoons of vegan mayo and 1 tablespoon of hot sauce)

Instructions

  1. First, you need to prepare the banana blossom. Drain the can of banana blossom and rinse it thoroughly under cold water. Then, cut the banana blossom into bite-sized pieces and set aside.

Make the batter:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and plant milk. Mix well to combine.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Next, dip each piece of banana blossom into the wet batter and coat it thoroughly. Then, roll the banana blossom in the breadcrumb mixture until it's fully coated. Repeat with all the pieces of banana blossom.

Cook the burgers:

  1. Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil to the skillet if needed. Once the oil is hot, place the breaded banana blossom pieces in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy.

Assemble:

  1. Toast the burger buns to your liking. Add lettuce, tomato, onion, or any other toppings you desire. Then, place the cooked banana blossom pieces on top of the burger buns and serve immediately.
