Mapo Tofu Udon
This Mapo Tofu Udon has been all over TikTok lately — and honestly, I completely understand why. It’s creamy, spicy, deeply savory, and incredibly comforting. Think classic Mapo Tofu flavors, but reimagined with chewy udon noodles and a silky tofu sauce that coats every strand.
What makes this version special is the contrast in textures: a smooth, creamy silken tofu sauce paired with crumbled firm tofu that soaks up all that bold, spicy umami. It’s cozy enough for a quiet night in, but exciting enough to feel like something new.
If you love noodles, tofu, and big flavors, this is one trend worth trying.

Why You’ll Love This

- Creamy without dairy – Silken tofu creates a rich, velvety sauce with no cream needed.
- Bold but balanced – Spicy doubanjiang is mellowed out by the tofu sauce, making it deeply savory rather than overwhelming.
- High-protein & filling – Using both silken and firm tofu makes this dish nourishing and satisfying.
- TikTok-worthy but practical – Trendy, yet made with simple pantry ingredients.
- Comfort food – Warm, cozy, and perfect for colder days or when you want something grounding.
Ingredients (Serves 2)
Silken Tofu Sauce
- 1 pack silken tofu (200 g)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Mapo Tofu Udon
- 200 g firm tofu, crumbled
- 2 green onions, white and green parts separated
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 thumb-size piece of ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon doubanjiang (spicy fermented bean paste)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon vegetarian oyster sauce
- 2 packs udon noodles
Instructions

- Make the silken tofu sauce: Add the silken tofu, salt, and black pepper to a blender. Blend until completely smooth and creamy. Set aside.
- Cook the udon noodles: Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the udon according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
The Mapo Tofu:
- Finely mince the garlic and ginger. Separate the white and green parts of the green onions.
- Heat a pan over medium heat with a little oil. Add in the crumbled tofu and fry until a bit dry out. Add in the green onion whites, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the doubanjiang and cook for 30–60 seconds, stirring constantly to release its aroma. Stir in the soy sauce and vegetarian oyster sauce.
- Cook for a few minutes, allowing it to absorb the sauce and lightly dry out, similar to classic Mapo tofu.
- In a bowl, combine the cooked udon, green onion greens, blended silken tofu sauce and the stir-fried tofu. Enjoy!
