Tofu Scallion Cream Cheese

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

Tofu Scallion Cream Cheese is a delicious and healthy vegan spread that combines the creaminess of tofu with the fresh flavors of scallions. This dairy-free and gluten-free alternative offers a light and refreshing twist on traditional cream cheese, perfect for those looking for a plant-based option.

The tofu base provides a smooth and silky texture, while the addition of finely chopped scallions adds a burst of flavor and a hint of oniony zest. Together, these ingredients create a savory and creamy spread that can be used on bagels, toast, sandwiches, or as a dip for veggies.

Tofu Scallion Cream Cheese is not only a great option for vegans and those with dairy allergies, but also for anyone looking to add a nutritious and flavorful twist to their meals. It's easy to make at home and can be customized with additional herbs, spices, or seasonings to suit your taste preferences. Enjoy the wholesome goodness of this tofu-based spread with a touch of spring onions in every bite!

Ingredients

This recipe only uses a few ingredients:

  • Firm tofu: Provides a creamy base, adding protein and a neutral taste.
  • Scallion: Adds a fresh, savory flavor and a pop of color.
  • Lime or lemon juice: Offers tanginess and balances flavors.
  • Salt: Enhances flavors and provides seasoning.
  • Nutritional yeast: Adds a cheesy, umami richness and nutrients.

Instructions

  1. In a blender, blend together the tofu, salt, nutritional yeast, lime juice and ⅓ of the sliced scallions.
  2. Transfer to a bowl, and mix with the remaining diced scallions.
  3. Add the vegan tofu cream cheese to bagels, toasts or as a dip for chips.

Substitutes

  • Silken tofu: Can be used instead of firm tofu for a smoother texture.
  • Chives: Substitute for scallions for a similar oniony flavor.
  • Vinegar: Can replace lime or lemon juice for acidity.
  • Herbs or spices: Instead of salt, use alternative seasonings like garlic powder or tamari.
  • Miso paste: A savory alternative to nutritional yeast for a umami flavor.
